Custom Extrusions

We exploit the versatility of the aluminum extrusion process to supply many different precision manufactured parts to our customers in the electronics, telecommunications, computer, food service, automotive, and medical industries.

Extrusion Features

Circle size up to 16.500" in diameter

Alloys: 6061, 6063, and 6005

We recognize the demand for short extrusion prototype and production lead times. On an expedited basis we can deliver samples from a newly tooled extrusion shape in three to four weeks!

The most common alloy for extrusions is 6063-T5.  This alloy is easy to extrude and has very good thermal and mechanical

properties.  The following table lists some common properties of 6063-T5*:

M&M Metals extrusions comply with industry standard tolerances established by the Aluminum Association, Inc. Tolerances are

directly related to the size of the extruded shape: the larger the shape the greater the tolerance will be.  In many cases, we

can  maintain ½ of the industry standard on one or two particular features.  For full information of industry tolerances consult

the aluminum Association, Inc. website at www.aluminum.org.

The following guidelines apply to custom extrusions:

(These will help keep the die cost down and increase design extrudability)

To improve extrudability, have a 60° opening for screw bosses.

To ensure that extrusion will fill properly and die won't break , avoid small fins surrounded by large fins. For threaded hardware, use serrated extruded slots. To save machining, use straight slots for PC boards

        Preferred               Not Recommended

Large hollow spots require sufficient die attachment metal to keep hollow from breaking off in die and to allow even flow.

A proven method to mate two pieces of extrusion.

Machining & Finishing

Multiple CNC machining centers and our Statistical Process Control (SPC) production monitoring techniques enable us to produce parts exactly to your precise specifications.  All our work methods are ISO 9002 modeled.

Extruded shapes can be cut with consistent accuracy to ± .002 on our precision automatic cut-off saws. Our CNC machines are capable of exacting repeatability with tolerances to ± .003.

Our operations are designed to support production quantities from single prototypes to high volume production runs. We also recognize the industry demand for short production lead times. Therefore, we manage our shop so that delivery times of two weeks or less are possible on small production runs. Machined prototypes in one week or less is our standard!

In-house operations and/or supplier relationships allow us to compliment our machining capability.
